I’m new to IFS but not new to therapy or recovery. It’s been a revelation to bring a trauma informed approach (via folks like Gabor Maté and Richard Schwartz) to my experience but it feels so different to the traditional 12-step path and very isolating too.
My feeling is that I’m talked out but know that there’s a disconnect between my body (with chronic pain and illness) and my mind. I saw that you have zoom offerings, do you think it could work with someone like myself, I’m based in the UK.
Hi Louise! I went through a similar experience in my recovery journey. For me, it was like getting sober all over again when I started exploring IFS, Somatic Experiencing, and Compassionate Inquiry. IFS can definitely support those parts that are feeling like something is missing in the 12-step approach, feeling lonely with those thoughts, and experiencing disconnection.
